Changelog

What's new

New features, improvements and fixes in QuietBookCut, on the website and in the Android app. Newest first.

  • Website Convert a photo, not just a PDF — "Convert an existing PDF" now also takes one JPEG, PNG or WebP image of a pattern page (a photo or a scan) and converts it like a one-page PDF, fitted to A4 as the app does with photos.

  • Website Paper pinwheel you can really fold — the designer's free basic shapes now include a fold-up paper pinwheel: a square with its corners slit and five pin holes, ready to cut from cardstock (SVG or DXF, for Cricut or Silhouette), curl and pin to a stick; tick "Show it made up" in Preview for a photo of it folded. Small holes in your shapes, like pin or lacing holes, now always come through in the cut files, and cardstock / paper and adhesive vinyl are new materials.
  • Website Decals: size advice for detailed drawings — the line art to vinyl preview now shows gaps too narrow to weed in blue, says the size a drawing works best at (with a button to use it), and warns before you download a decal that's too detailed for vinyl at its size; the report also words the added ink correctly.

  • Website Line art to vinyl decal — at quietbookcut.com/line-art-to-vinyl, upload a black line drawing, tattoo flash or colouring page (image or PDF) and get one cut-ready decal for Cricut and other cutters: lines too thin to weed are thickened for you, stray specks are removed, and you set the finished size and line width with a live preview before downloading the SVG or DXF for 5 credits (free monthly credits count); only use art you own or have permission to use.
  • Website Stitch preview for decoded patterns — the Pattern Decoder now draws a picture of the stitches from the written instructions, on the page and in the PDF, and lists any rows that don't add up so you can check them before you start; like the decoder itself it's free, experimental and used at your own risk.
  • Website Shorter page addresses — the converter, help, guide and blog pages now have simple addresses such as quietbookcut.com/pdf-to-svg and quietbookcut.com/blog; old links and bookmarks still work.

  • Website Job emails after you confirm — "your pattern is ready" and "couldn't convert" emails now go only to a confirmed email address (app notifications are unchanged), so confirm yours from the link we sent to keep getting them.

  • Website Pattern Decoder — upload a photo of a finished knitted or crocheted item and get a written pattern as a PDF, with a few similar patterns found online; it's written by AI as a best guess, so check it before you start.

  • Website Phone-friendly navigation — on a phone the website now works like the app: a compact top bar with Jobs and a menu, and Back and Create buttons at the bottom of the screen.
  • WebsiteApp Photo of the whole page — in Preview pattern, a page with several pieces can now be turned into one AI photo of the whole page, not just one piece at a time.
  • App QuietBookCut is on Google Play — get the Android app from the Play Store: photograph your pattern pages, get a notification when they're traced, and check pieces and colours on your phone. An iPhone app is coming soon.
  • Website What's new page — this page: every change to the website and the app, newest first.
  • Website Clearer message for garment patterns — a multi-size dressmaking pattern printed across many sheets now says that's what it is, instead of a confusing "no pattern found".

  • Website Fewer failed conversions — an outline that touches itself no longer makes the whole pattern fail, so patterns that errored before now convert.
  • Website Printed colours picked up — pieces printed in their colour on the template now get that colour in the cut files.

  • Website Join pages works on overlapping pages — "Snap together" now lines up pages that overlap by design, and a piece that runs across several pages comes out as one piece.
  • Website Light coloured outlines trace — light blue or pink outlines drawn round writing are now picked up as pieces.

  • Website Move pieces one by one in Cricut Design Space — every piece is now its own shape in the SVG, so you can move or copy a single piece instead of the whole colour.
  • Website Fewer false "to check" flags — holes that are already cut out of a piece, and joined-up handwriting, are no longer flagged as missed pieces.

  • Website Join pages for pieces printed across several pages — tick the pages, then drag them or use Snap together to line up the printed edges, and the piece traces as one.
  • Website See what needs checking — the Jobs list shows "N pieces · M to check", and hovering lists each item and why.
  • Website Faint pencil and dashed lines trace — light pencil outlines, dashed and broken edges, and scanned dashed lines now close up and become pieces.
  • Website Fewer junk flags and lost pieces — drawn lines inside a piece are no longer cut out as holes, diagrams and reduced copies are skipped, and a piece that is found is never silently dropped.
  • Website A clear message when no pattern is found — photos, slides and colour artwork now say so plainly instead of returning a job full of unnamed boxes.

  • WebsiteApp Delete your account — you can now delete your account from the Profile page or in the app.
  • Website Re-cuts keep your edits — pieces you switched off, AI notes and your own tweaks survive a re-cut in the editor.
  • Website Blog launched — new guides on converting PDF and SVG patterns for Cricut, Silhouette and laser cutters, and on DXF versus SVG.

  • App Full piece editing on your phone — rename, recolour (one piece or every piece of a colour), set material, add an AI note, mark preview-only, don't cut, or adjust Fuzzy.
  • App Materials list — see the shopping list for a finished pattern, with colours, materials, piece counts, felt sheets and notions.
  • App Support button — send a message about a finished or failed pattern straight from the app.
  • WebsiteApp Safer accounts and fairer limits — a round of security improvements, plus tidier limits for guests and free accounts (patterns up to 10 pages).

  • WebsiteApp Start without an account — browse and upload first; a guest account is only made when you first convert, and you sign up when you want to download.
  • WebsiteApp Accessibility pass — better colour contrast, keyboard focus, screen-reader labels and larger tap targets on the site and app.
  • WebsiteApp New look — new fonts, a redesigned homepage with real before-and-after examples, and a "Not just quiet books" section showing everything you can cut.

  • App Android app launched — log in, upload a PDF or photos of pages, follow the conversion, see a felt preview and AI piece photos, and download cut files.

  • Website Welcome email and phone notes — new accounts get a welcome email, and people who sign up on a phone get a one-off bonus when they first log in on a computer.
  • Website Designer page sizes — Custom size can be picked, and you can save named page sizes in your browser.

  • Website Designer open to everyone — every signed-in account can now use the page designer.
  • Website Shapes cost 5 credits at download — designing is free; a designer object costs 5 credits to download, and your monthly free pieces count towards it.
